The bhajans came first; everything else followed.
Musician & Artist
Before I could speak, I was singing. I owe my music and my art to my Ishta Devi, Saraswathi, on whom I took mantra diksha at the tender age of eleven. Perhaps that explains everything that followed: the bhajans sung in ashrams since childhood, the years of teaching music to children and then to adults, and compositions on forms of the Goddess.
Alongside came clay — literally, the Mother Earth — and later reflective drawings, sketches, and artwork that reflected my meditative visions. The arts became a yoga in their own way, uniting me with the Mother.
I use art, music, and dance as therapeutic and healing methods.
When someone tells me they have a bad voice, I remember my Thatha’s lullaby which he wrote and performed for me until I was 20. Out of tune, out of pitch, out of rhythm, and absolutely beautiful. — from ‘All things Andaal’, 2024
